Starting with a fresh install, in Terminal: sudo apt-get update sudo apt-get install boinc sudo apt-get install virtualbox. Using the repositories has pros and cons. Atlas, CMS, and Test4Theory use VirtualBox, an x86 virtualization. I found using virtualbox from the apt-get repositories works out of the box eventhough it's not the latest version. Drivers and firmware all up to date on the Optiplex. I have tried installing AVG to replace Windows Defender on Win11, turning off AVG, and then uninstalling AVG again, with reboots.
#BOINC VIRTUALBOX WINDOWS 10#
I have tried Ubuntu 20.04 and Windows 10 on both, and now Windows 11 Pro on the Optiplex The Leomoon CPU-V app says everything is working for Virtualisation on both machines. The tasks start to run but then CPU utilisation drops to 0% after about 15s of processor time and stays there. On these virtual machines, you can run any operating system independently of your hardware-installed OS. VirtualBox is a free and open source virtualization tool that allows the creation of virtual machine(s) inside your PC.
#BOINC VIRTUALBOX SOFTWARE#
Both will run non-Virtualbox Rosetta tasks, and the Optiplex will run other BOINC VirtualBox tasks successfully (I've only tried LHC so far but that worked fine). Some of the LHChome projects also use software called VirtualBox.
#BOINC VIRTUALBOX FULL#
It seems to be machine specific, so maybe something to do with hardware or firmware settings? The two machines that won't successfully run VirtualBox tasks are a new-to-me Dell Optiplex 3040 and a Dell R410 server. Hi, I am seeing the same issue on some machines.
